Tips for a successful BikeWalkRun-Athon |
|
Create friendly competition
Are
there other campus ministries at neighboring colleges or universities?
Do you know other campus ministry leaders? Challenge one of them to see
who can raise more!
During the event:
- Be sure to provide water stations as necessary
- Consider
the idea of a prayer walk—or prayer bike-walk-run—and provide prayer
topics for your participants, to pray for each other, for your
campus(es), for all college students, for Lutheran Campus Mission Association, for the
Synod, etc.
Keep in mind:
- Simple is better!
We hope to provide you an opportunity to raise funds without a lot of
work and headache. Complicated routes, routes down busy streets, and
multiple route options (different for bikers, walkers, or runners) are
great ideas—but please keep safety of all in mind throughout this
process.
- Also,
dividing the funds you raise to go to multiple causes can work, but it
can also “water down” the main cause. Even if you choose more than one
local cause to support, we encourage you to keep a sharp focus on your
main message: the value of campus ministry. Simple, clear, urgent
communication of what is going on in your campus ministry can be very
effective!
Pray pray pray!
An
event like this is an excellent opportunity to enfold your ministry and
campus in prayer. No matter the financial goals, challenging students
and participants to pray for the mission field they are in (as well as
for spread of the Gospel everywhere) and pray for the Lord’s blessing
and provision will demonstrate for all to see how God is at work in the
lives of these Christ-followers.

Thanks to Lutheran Church Extension Fund and its NAILS Student Laborers for Christ program for supporting our 2010 BikeWalkRun-Athon!
NAILS
is a simple idea. You sign up to work for a Lutheran Church—Missouri
Synod (LCMS) congregation or organization that is constructing its own
facilities. NAILS helps arrange living
accommodations while you are working on the construction project. You
are paid minimum wage as an employee of the congregation or organization
constructing its facilities.
